Dartington Hall Garden

The medieval Hall was bought by Leonard and Dorothy Elmhirst in 1925. A twentieth century garden was planned by Dorothy Elmhirst and is set within a 1,000 acre estate. Beatrix Farrand, the famous American garden designer, designed the courtyard (1933-8). Percy Cane designed the glade, the azalea dell and a very handsome flight of steps (1945). The design style is Arts and Crafts. The 'tilt yard' (which may be the remains of a tudor pond) is surrounded by steep grass terraces. The ancient yew is said to be 2000 years old. There are sculptures by Henry Moore, Willi Soukop and Peter Randall-Page.

As explained in the video, Dan Pearson was commissioned to prepare a new design for the gardens in 2018
