Deeg (or Dig) Palace Gardens

Deeg was the garden palace of India's Jat rulers. Badan Singh was proclaimed ruler in 1722 and made the Purana Mahal (old palace). Surajmal built additional palaces (Nand Bhawan, Gopal Bhawa, Sawan, Bhadon ) around a water garden with walkways, flowerbeds, trees, shrubs, and some 500 fountains fed by a vast tank. The Sawan and Bhadon palaces are designed to resemble barges.

The name of the palace, Gopal Bhavan, is Hindu. Gopal (Sanskrit: गोपाल means 'cow protector') and is the childhood name of Lord Krishna. But form of the gardens, domes, arches, and garden have a Mughal origin. The great baoli (water tank) is typically Hindu but tanks (not on this scale) are also found in Muslim culture.
