Deene Park

A Tudor/Georgian house with a park, lake and twentieth century garden. There is a good collection of trees, herbaceous borders and a parterre designed by David Hicks.

This beautiful, exclusive home and its stunning gardens are now available for hire as a wedding venue for Civil Marriages, Ceremonies and Wedding Receptions, one of the most romantic locations set in the heart of the Northamptonshire countryside, Deene Park has been famously photographed for Tatler and Country Living magazines.

Head Gardener's Comment

Whatever the season the gardens at Deene Park are a delight to behold; the parterre at the south elevation is resplendent with iris, hyacinth and tulips at this time of year and summer perennials as we move into the summer months.
As with all gardens, those at Deene Park never stop evolving and the last few years saw the renovation of the White Garden; so named because the planting is predominantly shades of white and cream, and the Golden Garden; inspired by Charlotte Brudenell's love of warm and vibrant colours. The planting includes white lilac, roses, fox gloves and iris as well as cosmos and gypsophila. Bordered by an ornamental canal the south facing gardens overlook rolling parkland. The Old Kitchen tea room provides delicious cakes, refreshments and snacks, the gift shop is the ideal stopping point for purchasing gifts or plants for your own garden.

History

The gardens at Deene Park like the house, have undergone many changes over the centuries, but have never looked better than they do today. The formal gardens on the south side of this beautiful historic house give way to a vista of parkland and lakes linked by a canal; at its narrowest junction the canal is spanned by a fine stone bridge reminiscent of pictures in a fairy tale book. Interested visitors can find information on the history and development of the gardens in the Summer House. Today the garden is managed by a team of two gardeners, headed up by Andrew Jones who has been caring for and developing the gardens since 2001.

The most striking feature of the gardens is the box hedge parterre planted and designed by David Hicks in the 1990s. The planting consists of clipped lavender, perennials such as Geraniums, Salvias, Iris, Nepeta, and spring bulbs including Hyacinths and tulips.
