Gardenvisit Editorial

A 15th century manor with an Arts and Crafts garden designed by Alfred Parsons. Parsons was an English Painter (1847-1920) who lived for many years in the United States. He loved painting flowers and gardens and was a judge at the Chelsea Flower Show. He worked as an illustrator for Harper’s Magazine and also on a number of books, including “Herrick’s Poems” with E A Abbey, “The Danube” with F D Millet and the Wild Garden, with William Robinson. Great Chalfield shows many signs of Parsons' excellent taste and attention to detail. The garden is reasonably well cared for by the National Trust but deserves the care of someone who loves flowers as well as Parsons.
