London's best 20th century housing project, described by Lewis Mumford as 'a masterpiece and an artistic triumph'. Parker and Unwin designed the scheme in 1905. It makes excellent use of the topography and the central square (design by Edwin Lutyens in 1908) on the hilltop is by far the best twentieth century residential square in London. Garden enthusiasts will also find it interesting to walk the adjoining streets: they have the best collection of Arts and Crafts front gardens in the world.
