Kirkley Hall Gardens

A seventeenth century house and 9 acre garden, used as a college garden. It has terraces, a sunken garden, a walled garden and a range of demonstration beds.

Head Gardener's Comment

The gardens exceed 10 acres and include a large collection of unusual trees, shrubs, herbaceous and ornamental borders. The Victorian Walled Garden has something for everyone and contains a variety of mixed borders, fruit, vegetables and flowers for cutting.

Kirkley Hall offers guided tours of the beautiful gardens, during which experienced staff will be on hand to answer your questions and offer practical tips and advice.

The garden tours are available for groups (max 40)and can be tailored to meet your needs.

The gardens are also used by Northumberland College’s Horticulture students to enrich their learning experience.

Plants of note

Among the gardens is also the National Fagus collection, an array of beeches, which is unique to Kirkley. The only other person who has such a collection is Prince Charles!
