Harvey S. Ladew (1887-1976) was born to wealth and became a traveler, an artist, a foxhunter and creator of a topiary garden. He spent much time foxhunting in England and decided to make a garden with an oval swimming pool, cross axes, garden rooms with colour themes - and a famous collection of garden topiary. Among the English gardens which might have inspired him are Levens Hall, Hidcote and Compton Wynyates.
