The Lahore Fort complex was started by Akbar. Jahangir's Quadrangle, within the fort, is a zanana (ladies) courtyard enclosed by residential buildings with rectangular walks and a pool at the center. The Fort also contains a second char bagh type garden and the Shar Burj (Royal Tower) which is paved and was accessible only to the princes and high officials of the court. The marble paving has a char bagh pattern of water channels.
