Little Moreton Hall Garden

A marvelous black and white moated manor house (c1504-1508). It has a cobbled courtyard. There are no records of the old garden but the National Trust asked Graham Stuart Thomas to prepare a design. The main feature is a knot garden based on a drawing from Leonard Meager's The Complete English Gardener (1670). It's odd that a Renaissance building has a Baroque parterre of a type that did not exist in the sixteenth century. There is also a yew tunnel, a herb garden and herbaceous borders.
