Marie Victorin Park

History

Parc Marie-Victorin was created in 1985 to honour the 100th birthday of Conrad Kirouac, the famous botanist from Kingsey Falls better known as Brother Marie-Victorin. Quickly growing from a three- to a 29-acre site, the park has employed about 40 employees year after year, five of which make up the permanent team. As a non-profit organization, the park covers its annual budget through funds from different supporters, generous donors, proceeds from various events and services, and annual fundraising activities.
Since it opened, Parc Marie-Victorin has been a provincial leader in the use and transfer of ecological horticulture knowledge and techniques and in designing 3-D-mosaiculture displays. The park is the only tourist garden to have so many of these astonishing creatures made of plants on a permanent basis! In 2010, Parc Marie-Victorin also became the first tourist garden to be awarded top honours in the ICI, ON RECYLE! recognition program through ongoing efforts to raise awareness among visitors and employees of the conversion of potentially recyclable materials.
With its great location along the Nicolet River featuring superb waterfalls, and its flair for innovation, the park is a much sought-after tourist attraction throughout the summer, a season that just keeps getting longer. When its current development project is completed, almost $5 million will have been invested to consolidate the park’s educational and tourism vocations.
Parc Marie-Victorin is particularly adept at presenting scientific and fun recreational activities accessible to the general public. It offers a wide range of activities, events, and educational workshops that reflect the same global dynamics – respect for the environment and sustainable development.
Constantly evolving, this “green” tourism gem is one of the main tourist attractions in the Centre-du-Québec. It’s geographical location bordering on the Bois-Francs and Eastern Townships regions make it one of the most accessible large tourist gardens!

PATH OF CURIOSITIES
As you stroll along, you’ll come across new or rare cultivars and several species that are little known or rarely used in this sector, in zone 4. In particular, you’ll see a beautiful and exceptional collection of softwood trees of varied colours and shapes, a collection of miniature trees, and our impressive and colourful rectilinear pond that delights photographers year round. You’ll also find several species of insect-eating and acid-loving plants, and even plants from Japan, China and South Africa!
