Montgomery Place was designed by Alexander Jackson Davis (under the influence of his friend Andrew Jackson Downing). It has views of the Hudson River and the Catskill Mountains. The estate belonged to Janet Livingston Montgomery, widow of General Richard Montgomery and she commissioned a Federal-style house in 1804. The estate includes gardens, woodland, orchards an arboretum and waterfalls. Historic Hudson Valley restored the house and grounds and opened the estate to the public in 1988.
