The house, in a style known in Britain as Mock Tudor, was built by the local lumber baron Nathan Paine - and is now listed on the National Register of Historical Places. It provides as near as one can get to an English garden experience in Winconsin. The garden is also attractively Mock Tudor. It has a Primrose Path, a Sunken Garden and a hedge inspired by Hampton Court Palace (in south west London).
