The 'medieval garden' was designed by Alessandro Menghini (Professor of Pharmaceutical Botany at the University of Perugia) on the site of the Benedictine monastery of San Pietro. It is based on the abstract concept of a monastic garden, symbolizing the Garden of Eden, an 'eliptical cosmogenic egg' and an Earthly Paradise.
The monastery of San Pietro also has two cloisters with much better claims to being described as medieval gardens.
