The garden was made in 1988 and is named after named after Vidyadhar Bhatacharya (1693-1751) the planner of Jaipur. Bhatacharya admired the Shilpa Shastras and used them in the planning of Jaipur. Shilpa Shastras deal with arts and crafts and are related to the Vastu Shastras, which deal with building houses, forts, temples, apartments, village and town layout, etc. Shilpa Shastra principles were also used in the detailed design of Vidgadkiarji Ka Bagh.
