An English architect who had visited China and, catching the enthusiasm for Chinoiserie, also worked on gardens. He designed the Triumphal Arch at Wilton House and the Pagoda and Roman Ruin in Kew Gardens. Chambers wrote a book of Designs of Chinese buildings in 1757 and a Dissertation on Oriental Gardening (1772) which criticized Lancelot Brown,
