An author, editor, gardener, owner of Scotney Castle and long-time contributor to the magazine Country Life. Christopher Hussey wrote two of the best books on English garden history: The Picturesque (1927) and English Gardens and Landscapes 1700-1750 (1967). He relates that as a child he thought of Scotney as a natural landscape. He was only in his twenties that he realised it was an example of a landscape garden in the picturesque style of garden design.
