The fortified farm dates from the 12th century, with old buildings and a dovecot enclosing a courtyard. It is likely that it was used to protect animals and equipment in the middle ages but it is an excellent site for a created medieval garden. Great care has been taken with the plants, based on Charlemagne's Capitulary. But the design is more ornamental than is likely to have been the case, even for lordly gardens, during the medieval period.
