England is the most garden-loving country in the world, with more gardens open to the public than anywhere else. London is the Garden Capital of the world, in the sense of having a higher proportion of garden-loving residents than any other capital city in the world. But there are disappointingly few great English gardens in London: one therefore has to travel by car or train to other English regions to find great gardens to visit. The most famous period in English garden history is the eighteenth century, when the original English landscape gardens were made.
