A grand estate overlooking an estuary of the River Tamar. Humphrey Repton was commissioned to do a landscape design for the site. Few of his proposals were implemented but the full Red Book can be seen online. There is a spring garden with bulbs, camellias, rhododendrons and azaleas. Port Eliot has a landscape park, 180 ha of woodland and ornamental gardens dating from the 19th-century. The estate is bounded on two sides by the River Tiddy. William Sawry Gilpin also prepared plans for the site. A Japanese garden was added in the early 20th century and a rustic summer house was built in 1932.
